Pasadena is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the city's population is 149,043, making it the seventeenth most populous city in the state of Texas, as well as the second-largest city in Harris County. The area was founded in 1893 by John H. Burnett of Galveston, who named the area after Pasadena, California, because of the perceived lush vegetation.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 44.5 square miles (115 km²), of which 44.2 square miles (114 km²) is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) (0.81%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 149,043 people. There were 54,712 housing units. As of the census of 2000, there were 141,674 people, 47,031 occupied housing units, and 35,179 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,208.1 people per square mile (1,238.7/km²).
